9/16/08 - Ego – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly By Paul Chek

Today there is much talk about the ego among psychologists, various metaphysical groups, and not surprisingly, preachers, pastors, rabbis and leaders of various spiritual organizations. Some of the experts say, “The ego is bad and you need to get rid of it – you must kill the ego!” Others say, “You have no free will so you can’t get rid of, nor change anything.” Of course, for this camp of experts, the inability to change oneself extends to the ego. Still others, myself included, encourage people to “embrace the ego, for it is all you really have to navigate life!” In this short article, I’d like to explore and clarify some concepts surrounding the nature of the ego.

What is the Ego?

Let’s start with the fundamentals. The ego is:

  • Your sense of self; your ability to differentiate the idea of you from the idea of me.

  • By definition, a border, barrier or definition.

  • Necessary for you to enjoy the privacy of mind that affords your thoughts.

  • Your perception of reality vs. my perception of reality.

  • A resting place to your soul: what nest is to a bird, what den is to a bear, what cave was to primal man, or teepee is to a Native American.

  • Synonymous with your mind.

Ego as Mind

With those basics out of the way, let’s look more closely at the ego and its relationship to the mind. The ego is inextricably linked to what you know of as your mind. Without the ideas that make up your mind, you would have no ego. For example, the person with Alzheimer’s disease has essentially lost their ego. They no longer know “who” they are, nor do they know who their closest family members are any more either! When you are sound asleep at night, do you know who you are? NO! Nobody does. And just as we rest our body and mind from the energetic demands from the day each night during our sleep, so too do we rest our ego in sleep. This is essential to your health. The nervous system is the home of your memory of self—your very ideas of self—and it must rest each day or severe neurological problems emerge, most of which are an attempt by the ego to get you to pay attention to yourself.

Ego and Soul

Beyond the mind, the ego has an important relationship to the soul. But before we look at that relationship, it’s important to clarify the nature of the soul. Contrary to popular belief, the soul is not a thing. You can’t touch it or see it. You can’t burn it, freeze it or crush it. You can’t even count it mathematically—it is a zero. From an electromagnetic perspective, the soul is neutral polarity (Φ); akin to an insulator. The ego is made of the polarities created by your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual desires and will. More specifically, any electrical circuit must have a positive and negative polarity through which current moves. Ego functions analogously to the current in a circuit, while the soul is the insulator that keeps the idea of you from short-circuiting or canceling itself out. The ego has its own unique desires and determines the experience of them through the action of will. So the soul serves as an important check on the drive of the ego.

The Development of Ego/Perspective of Self

Your ego begins developing as soon as you are born. Your parents begin talking to you and programming you with cultural and societal ideas about who they want you to be, and in fact, who they think “you” are. It is through the ego that your perception of self emerges.

However, because most people had little or no part in their initial programming as children, many are perplexed by their thoughts, emotions and actions. In fact, individuals in this situation often reach a point where they no longer like themselves! This is always sad to see as a holistic health practitioner or therapist.

To alter your ego you must change your perception of self. As you can see in Figure 1 to the left, three factors create your perception:

  • Your programming (the ideas and beliefs you hold as true)

  • Your internal environment or inner sense of self

  • Your external environment; that which your inner-self interfaces with so you can experience life.

Changing Your Perspective In my Personal~Professional~Spiritual Success Mastery Lesson 1 – How To Find and Live Your Legacy, we look at each of these three elements of your perception. I teach you how to identify the truly challenging and the positive events in your life. With such experiences charted so they can be read and interpreted, I show you how to recognize the source of the programming behind your behavior, the flow of energy that creates the impetus to act, and how each action changes to reinforce the source energy and behavior(s).

Building the sort of programming that leads to a healthy ego requires that we establish our core values. If you can learn to live by those core values, you will manage your energy investments carefully and create what you want—not what you don’t want! This is the true meaning of the term “free will” (the choice is yours).

The individual without clearly defined core values simply cannot have a healthy ego. They don’t know who they are! They are very likely to bounce from one painful relationship to another, from one unrewarding job to another, from one town to another… The person that recognizes such behavior and has been unsuccessful at changing it is very likely to be someone that makes statements like:

  • There are no good men or women around any more…

  • People are so stupid…

  • Why are all my bosses such assholes?!

  • You can’t trust anyone…

  • I’m never gonna have…

  • I do this because I don’t have the skills to do anything else…

These scenarios accurately describe the individual whose ego is either ill defined or undefined. Such an ego is worth crucifying! But don’t worry. This is not the kind of crucifixion that typical ‘churchgoers’ speak of. It is the kind of crucifixion that opens the door to willingness to alter the ego. After all, any time you change the ideology or idea structure, you’ve changed the ego. If you establish or change your core values for the better, you’ve generally improved the rate at which you manifest what you want in life. Thus, the crucifixion is essential to the resurrection!

PPS Success Mastery Lesson 2 – How To Master Your Self, continues where Lesson 1 left off, teaching you more about the three elements that create our perceptions leading to positive self-management. This lesson teaches you the science of memetics. This allows the Truth Seeker to identify the source of the socio-cultural values meme or idea-set that they have been operating within. From clear understanding of where the seeds of any ideology come from and what beliefs they grow, you can choose to garden your mind more intelligently, more effectively. You can also learn to communicate in a language others in your life can hear. It is a daily occurrence for most of us to have to interact with people that not only have different, but conflicting belief systems. Once you recognize the different belief systems (value systems), you can both understand their point of view and make requests in their language. The result is greater ease and efficiency with which your life unfolds. Additionally, one who is educated in this regard goes from the judgmental viewpoint to the empathetic and compassionate viewpoint of one who understands other!

It should be our goal in life to create, love and maintain a healthy ego. A healthy ego is exemplified by an open mind, positive self-esteem, affirmative attitude, creativity, resourcefulness and humility. The mind is like a parachute…it only works when it’s open!

The PPS Mentors and I at the Personal~Professional~Spiritual Success Master Center share the best of our training and life experiences with you so that you too may enjoy the freedom of a healthy ego and the benefits of free will—the freedom of knowing that you can create the life you want! After all, it takes less energy to create and maintain the life you want than it does to create and maintain the life you don’t want. Clearly, that message hasn’t reached many people yet!

It is my dream to share the best of me with the best of you so we can enjoy the benefits of healthy egos together.

7/2/07 - Paul shares his response to one of the most common questions he receives from PPSMP Practitioners

Hello Andrew and all CHEK Practitioners,

I'd like to take a moment to answer Andrew's important question regarding self-talk, which many people suffer from.

Andrew asks: "I have a question i would like some help with. If you have voices in your head talking to you and influential feelings within, how do you distinguish whether to act on them or not?

This is because it may be:

1 - Your lower self / past experiences still affecting you? or
2 - Your higher self communicating with you?

I ask this question because i find trying to make the best decision based on ones feelings is sometimes tough. Does anyone have any advice as to how to determine which voice it is?!"

Love and chi,
Andrew

Paul Chek Responds:
Please follow with me here:

1. The Higher-Self (HS) is the Soul. Soul itself is a direct emanation of God, existing in vertical time. Itself, without any wants, needs or desires; think of Soul as a seed, which itself will exist without action for untold periods of time, all the while, holding the potential of the entire tree or plant within. The Soul is Unconditional Love; key word..."Unconditional"; there is no line of demarcation between yin and yang here - no "tai-chi", just Wu-Chi.

2. Soul (HS) is actualized by Spirit. In actual fact, all souls on the planet are not "Souls", but are Spirit-Souls; the seed can not express itself in space-time without earth, water, fire (sun), air, and ether (space) as an experiential matrix. Spirit emanates from Wu-chi - an ABSOLUTE Vacuum, which is not empty in the sense conveyed by the word "vacuum", but rather ABSOLUTELY Full, creating a condition of Fullness, which in philosophy is called the "plenum". Spirit then, is created by the Absolute exchange of Emptiness or Vacuum with Plenum; our sun is a very close approximation of this state in that it is absolutely full of itself, yet spiritually, is absolutely empty; one must get past the pure material aspects of a star to understand this. Steiner beautifully describes something that I have personally witnessed many times; the sun is essentially a perfectly spherical mirror within; it contains all the purified souls awaiting bodies and their radiance is so magnificent as to create the light radiating from it. Here we have a condition akin to the human body in that we have a body that can be analyzed from a purely physical perspective (bones, muscles, guts, blood, water...), yet clearly there is a spiritual (soul) being residing within as "conscious", which is the soul, yet, within soul (your consciousness) is Soul, or Divine Consciousness - The Watcher; Watching is NOT "doing" it is essentially "being" or existence itself.

The exchange of energy that takes place as God (The Absolute) enters the relative is exemplified as the eternal return in metaphysics. This essentially means that God as Void empties Self at the same rate that God Fills Self; this is exemplified by the infinity symbol, which is essentially a sign-wave that doubles back on itself infinitely and infinitely fast. The result is that spirit is essentially everywhere and nowhere at one and the same time. Soul is the "Nowhere" of it, while Spirit is the Everywhere of it. While this may seem complex :-), it isn't really. You experience this phenomenon every time you look in the mirror; you are the plenum (full of yourself), while the mirror (void) is so empty as to immediately be full of you! I describe this function throughout the human body in PPS Lessons 9 and 12. If you were to measure the speed at which an object appears in a mirror, it would essentially be the speed of light because it is measured by physical instrumentation that is limited to that speed as maximum, yet, if measured spiritually, via your own soul, the speed of expression would be infinite because the test was completed before it started; your measurement was completed before you measured it...the soul is a vertical-time reality and to measure anything is a liner time assessment. This is one of the very reasons so many people can't wrap their head around God or spiritual truths; they want a Newtonian reality to explain a quantum reality which is akin to trying to dry off with a towel while submerged in water! "Bless them Father, for they know not what they do!..."

3. The body and brain, in which the self-talk is registered is earth, water, fire, air, ether, mineral, plant, and animal in construction; it is only "man" because of the psychogenic evolution that resides within the body; Rumi states, "God sleeps in the mineral kingdom, dreams in the plant kingdom, moves in the animal kingdom, and awakens to Himself in man".

4. Body is a "desire~will" expression in the biosphere: The emptiness of the Divine Void creates Absolute Desire (exemplified as the female and the uterus in man and most animals), while the plenum is expressed as Absolute Will (exemplified as the male and penis in man and most animals); seen another way, the female/vagina is the negative pole of a sign wave, while the male/penis is the positive pole, yet since both are reflections of each other and can only be "relative" expressions of Soul (Absolute Unity), to the degree that the male is represented as a positive sign wave, he must also exist as a female, therefore casting a shadow into the negative pole of equal and opposite magnitude; the male's female potential is seeded to the degree that he does not express it; it is worth noting that all Avatars are so equally male and female as to be undifferentiated to the average person's perception; see Krishna and Babaji for examples! This constant exchange of expression of potential (spirit-will-positive) as the male or male personality and the female or female personality (spirit-will-negative) is what produces movement throughout the entire universe! It is also what creates movement within "you!". IT IS ALSO WHAT CREATES CROSS TALK IN YOUR HEAD, for your head/brain is merely an elaborate two-way radio existing in and of the Divine Mind, which is essentially the entire Universe.

Every cell in a living organism of the biosphere has basic survival needs, which are coupled with innate self-serving instincts designed to increase the likelihood of fulfilling those needs. Your stomach is empty and it wants to be filled; your colon is full and wants to be emptied, your eye is empty, yet full of what you look at, your heart is empty but desires to be full, your brain (ventricles) is empty and wants constantly to be full....Ahhh...Yessss, so here we are Andrew....now we come to the point...Each of us with a body has bodily needs:

- food
- warmth
- water
- shelter/security
- space
- Love!

To the very degree that one's body is perceptibly lacking (desire) (perceptibly because many drugs and other psychophysical conditions can create perception of lack), inner -dialogue is created in attempt to move you toward "full-fill-ment" (will). Our job as CHEK Practitioners is to aid people in distinguishing which of their desires are in actuality "healthy or unhealthy" and by guiding them to physical/biological health, we progressively teach them how to manage the necessary or requisite desires for life, such as safety, hunger, thirst..., and how to avoid the unwanted desires from drugs, dangerous processed food molecules, toxicity, and the plethora of mental-emotional ills...

STIR THE BUCKET OF MILK LONG ENOUGH AND YOU GET CREAM, THEN BUTTER!

What most people hear in their head then, is the incessant dialogue of the Hu-man (Hu = humus, man = Ani-man); to the degree that their soil (food and symbiotic biological organisms are deficient or antagonistic/ at war) they are constantly getting messages from the respective organs, glands and tissues, not to mention their indwelling biological organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites to acquire what "they need". Since very few people can distinguish these messages from "their own" because they only associate themselves as "body" (these same people, by the way, are the ones that think the sun is but a ball of hydrogen, the earth a big rock, and God is out there... and while they may tell you that's not true...remember, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!) , they find themselves constantly in an internal tug-of-war as to what is and what isn't true, what is and what isn't a want vs. a need...and so on...

When a voice in the head is asking you for something; get some ice cream; your horny, go get some sex... you aren't safe, you need a sugar-daddy, or get MONEY NOW, or, get love - get love - get it - get approval, you are empty, alone, nothing...get love, get approval :-), THEN YOU KNOW FOR SURE YOU ARE NOT LISTENING TO THE SOUL!

The Soul has no need in and of itself and exists in, but not "OF" the physical world, just as your reflection in the mirror is "in, but not of the mirror itself" Remember, the Soul is Wu-Chi or the mathematical equivalent of Zero or neutron, while desire = proton and will = electron; there can be no positive nor relative negative save the unconditional love of the neutron, around which all action (will~desire) takes place.

Therefore, when one communicates with or takes commune in the Soul, it is like speaking to your Loving Grandmother or Grandfather, who in and of themselves, have lived so fully and completely that they can give you love and advice without being polarized or judgmental. The advice given from Soul will ALWAYS lead you toward Self-Realization or Unity. The advice given by the body or any other incumbent spirit-being residing within you will always be such that it leads you to think that it's desire is your desire and that your will is it's will! In short, the communication almost always ends up directing you to act in some way to fulfill a desire.

THIS IS WHY I PUT SO MUCH EMPHASIS ON HAVING A HEALTHY BODY TO HAVE A HEALTHY MIND, both of which are requisites for achieving an authentic spiritual life; one must purify themselves enough to be capable of differentiating the lower-self from the Higher-Self as both and internal and an external reality in life. This is exactly why my PPS training begins with "How To Find and Live Your Legacy", followed directly by Lesson 2 - "Self Management", which is the study of how the mind is programmed and how the body~mind system actually works. This is also the topic of my upcoming workshops by the way! See the following links:

Lesson One Workshop: How To Find and Live Your Legacy

Lesson 2 Workshop: More Life ~ Less Effort

For any C.H.E.K Practitioner, Level IV or otherwise, these workshops hold distinct value in that they:

1. Teach you to better understand yourself and your "SELF", as well as,

2. Teaching you how I personally use these principles to motivate my patients to take care of themselves and to understand them "SELF", which is essential if they are to overcome one of the most common and most dangerous, war producing, death producing addictions in the world...RELIGION! In these workshops, I will go into the physical aspects of how to use the body~soul as a divining tool so that you may always know which is the request of the physical body (material world) and which is the guidance of the soul (individuated) or Soul (God - Unity).

Love and Chi,

Paul Chek

GM Peas By Jeffrey M. Smith  Reposted with permission from The Ecologist.

CHEK POINTS: There is a tremendous effort by biotech organizations to avoid having to do, or allowing the necessary research prove the safety and efficacy of GM foods. The more independent, unbiased research that is done, the more evident it will be that we must not allow GM foods into our soils, our stores, and most importantly, OUR BODIES!

In my upcoming book, Lifting The Veil Of Deception, What Uncle Sam Isn’t Telling You About Organic Food and Organic Farming, I highlight a study relevant to the whole GM issue. Discovery magazine published a research article that looked at how insects communicate with plants. The scientists purposefully infected a plant species known to be used by wasps to lay eggs. The plant sent out chemical messages to the wasps, informing them that they were under attack by the parasites; certainly this message had special relevance to the wasps! Much to the scientists delight, and in-line with their suspicion, the wasps soon returned to the plants and attacked the plant parasites! This little experiment is but a tiny window into the vast complexity of Nature.

Holding that thought, just imagine the myriad of possibilities posed when you create GM plants in a lab that are not the natural gestation of nature, and have not developed synergistic expression within the web-of-life. What if a GM plant were to express a gene (unbeknownst to the lab rats that produced it!) that produced a signal that triggered a plague of insects who thought there was a predator attacking a host plant? What if a GM plant triggered a signal that caused insects to think another plant species was host to an invasive organism and that plant was a farmer’s crop? What other, of an almost unlimited number of complications go with gapping nature’s complex evolutionary processes; She has no knowledge or, need for, nor care about money! Maybe that will be a lesson we all have to learn; that lesson may be taught to those that are passive about expressing their concerns over GM foods!
