Yes, I am missing my gym, my library, my motorcycle and quiet...

London In Summer, Saturday, September 3, 2005

I have a love/hate relationship with London. I love it because there is and incredible wealth of great information here. London is loaded with excellent metaphysical book shops, rare book shops, great medical books, great anatomy text and even some of the best information on acupuncture and Eastern Philosophy of health and exercise.

Here you can see me at Alex's house after one of my famous book raids in London. I set the all time record for a single purchase at the Steiner Bookstore in London (most of the books you see here!) with a purchase that was equal to about $1200 USD. Damn that felt good too! There are a few excellent restaurants too. That's the love part. The part about London I don't particularly enjoy is the traffic and the fact that when I ride in the subway it is so dirty that when I blow my nose, what comes out looks like the tire dust I use to get in my nose when doing tire repair in an automotive shop. London has a severe need for a chain of good espresso shops, as does Denmark (they love to build nice shops and use cheap, bitter, poorly roasted beans). Next, London is more suited to ducks than humans; you need to be ready for any kind of weather here and in the span of three hours you can have sun, rain, blasting wind, lightening, more of the same...It also makes me sad to see so many young women becoming obese here. In fact, Mark Buckley and I both have noticed that it is actually becoming so normal for children and teenagers to be fat, that they now think its normal. When I go to the supermarkets here to buy Evian water, I'm constantly amazed that there is actually a country in the world where people eat WORSE than the average American does!

Swiss Ball For Rehabilitation

When you have to teach large, technical classes, it is really helpful to have good assistants. Fortunately, C.H.E.K Instructor Mark Buckley was here from New Zealand (photo below). Mark had already been teaching in the UK and was staying on for a while to do some writing and consultation work.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP MARK!

Copenhagen & the Nike Convention September 9, 2005

Needed rest in Copenhagen Copenhagen is an enjoyable place to visit. It’s not generally very warm, but it is lovely in August and September ( this photo was taken September 9th). This lovely place we were staying at for the first time at the invite of Hanna, one of the promoters of the Nike Conference, and Birgita, one of my students. Not only was this place absolutely beautiful outside in the garden area, the inside living quarters were done in the unique way that only the Danish and Swedish people do a home. To top it all off Birgita is part owner of their gym and I’ve never seen such a beautiful gym in any hotel or apartment building. Great Job Birgita!

The Nike Convention - Copenhagen
What You Don’t Know About Exercise Can Hurt You!

We had a fantastic turnout for this important weight training workshop with about 105 participants. That’s a huge number for a workshop of this nature because of all the equipment required and the task of teaching real weight training, conditioning and rehabilitative exercises to so many participants.
(below left) Here you see me discussing the importance of posture with the class. My model was a professional ballet dancer for many years and now, after several years in a sitting job, he has lost his lumbar curvature and developed a sway back. The exact opposite of what you normally find in
ballet dancers.

Here (above right), I’m showing how you can use a  wobble board to improve knee stability. this is a challenging rehabilitation exercise that is typically not done until the patient can effectively lunge under their own load, and then on a rocker board (a board that only rocks on one plane) Swiss balls are excellent tools for performing a bench press exercise with because they allow you to train with your arms at many angles relative to your chest. In a gym, you would have to use a decline, flat and incline bench to get the same effect that you can get on one Swiss ball by just manipulating your position on the ball. I do HIGHLY recommend that when you use any weights of greater than about 10 Kg (22 Lb.) you use anchor weights on your feet. I’ve actually almost flipped over before so I can assure yo that it is possible if you aren’t careful!

           NLC II, England 9-15-05

Thursday September 15th at NLC II

Afternoon Lecture on Organic Food, Organic Farming & Our Future!

Above, you can see the Eastbourne Lawn and Tennis center where we have been holding our C.H.E.K courses for some time now. We are up on the third floor and the walls are glass, which gives a lot of light even on a rainy day. Very helpful in England!

Below: here I am teaching the students how to use a pendulum to evaluate the energy field coming from different types of food, drugs, cell phones and any number of substances or items. The students are not only fascinated at my demonstrations, they are very fascinated to find out that they to can dowse! In NLC II, I not only get into the physical effects of food on our bodies and our life, but I explain the construction of man as a physical and spiritual being. I show my students how what we have done to the soils with commercial farming around the world is playing a part in the Greenhouse effect, the unusual weather patterns we are experiencing now, and the fact that our food is severely diminished in nutrient value. I show them that the worse the soils get, the worse the plants get; since animals eat plants for the most part, and we eat animals, you can see that the soil is the beginning of a very important chain of life that ends with the human being. What you do to one link, you do to each succeeding link; poor soil health equals poor human health!

Gibraltar Farm, Furl, UK Friday, September 16th, 2005

Today, Dr. Oliver was teaching NLC II and Emma Lane was assisting him. This gave me a nice break after lecturing till 10:00 PM last night. I went out to the office with Alex MacKenzie, our UK distributor (shown above). My intent was to check my e-mail so it didn’t pile up on me but, luck would have it that the server wouldn’t let either of us on line. That gave me the extra time to write this travel journal for you!

Alex’s office is about 30 min. from her home (without traffic!) and is in a lovely farming community. As you can see, the horses were very interested in my Tai-Chi exercise; I doubt they’d ever seen anyone doing Tai-Chi out here before. They were also very intrigued by the flash of the camera. Each time I see these beautiful horses, I can’t help but wonder what my life would be like if my main focus was just getting some good grass and a nice piece of ass now and then? Humm?

NLC II  Day 4

Today, we studied exercise program design and spiritual stressors
Saturday, September 17, 2005

Morning Day 4: Above, you see me teaching my favorite Chi Cultivation exercise, the Tai Chi ruler. I learned this great exercise from Master Fong Ha (see www.fongha.com) and find it the most effective exercise I do for stimulating parasympathetic activity. Because I like movement, I find the Tai Chi Ruler exercise more suitable to me than most forms of meditation. The little picture of the fox was taken by
Emma Lane (C.H.E.K NLC I Instructor); these little guys were lounging on the grass tennis courts in the sun while class was on. They are really beautiful little animals. Above, you can also see Dr. Oliver getting in the action of teaching as well. We are a great team.

Butt Draggin Fox
Funny enough, Emma Lane, the “parasite Lady”, would happen to catch this little fox dragging his butt across the grass tennis court. This is what dogs do when they have worms, and...this is exactly why you need to be careful about going barefoot on grass where dogs poop; the worms can get into your skin
and infect you! Worm your pets or get their bugs!

Toning

Day 5 (the final day) of NLC II always includes toning as a form of enhancing life~force. During this session, we all get to learn how to create harmonics and overtones with our own voices and in our bodies. Generally, students are amazed at how much energy toning creates in their bodies. Both Dr.
Oliver and myself really love toning and have found it beneficial in our personal lives as well as with our patients.

Here (right) you see Emma Lane relaxing into the toning session.

Group AUM Session
Below: The sound AUM (pronounced Ah ~ OOO ~ Mm ~ silence) is said by mystics to be the universal
sound from which all other sounds emerge, as well as the sound that created the universe, or the word. At the end of our toning sessions, we perform a group AUM session in which we energize anyone in the group that needs some healing. Many people have powerful emotional and healing experiences in these sessions!

Chakra Balancing and Sound Healing
After the group toning session, I choose the student that I feel most needs a chakra balancing and sound healing at that time. Once I assess the chakras, Dr. Oliver, myself and other musicians or drummers work to balance the energy in the student’s body based on my assessment. Today, Emma played the Tibetan bowl and one of the ladies in the class played the drum. Dr. Oliver played the Native American Indian Flute. I use a series of tuning forks to balance the body.
